Scott Dolan is a former award-winning newspaper reporter who spent years covering Maine's state and federal courts before becoming a lawyer himself. As a watchdog journalist, he fought to protect the people's rights, demand government transparency, and reveal the truth even when others wanted that truth obscured. Now, he brings that same dogged determination in his representation of his clients at MittelAsen.
As an attorney, Scott primarily focuses his practice on litigation, business law, and trademark and copyright law. He is experienced in representing individuals and small business clients in civil and appellate litigation, successful business building and problem solving, and intellectual property registration and infringement prosecution.
Scott graduated from the University of Maine School of Law in 2019. During law school, he served as a judicial intern for Judge Nancy Torresen of the United States District Court for the District of Maine, served as a staff member of the Maine Law Review, competed regionally with the law school's trial team, and worked as a student attorney at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic. Notably, he argued a prisoner rights appeal before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. He also worked as an intern for the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine.
Prior to his legal career, Scott worked as a journalist in the daily newspaper business for 17 years. He was a staff reporter for the Portland Press Herald from 2012 to 2016, covering the courts and legal affairs beat. Before that, he worked alternately as a news reporter and editor at newspapers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
Scott serves on the Board of Directors of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance and as the MWPA's liaison on the Board of Directors of the Maine Freedom of Information Coalition.
Scott lives with his family in the Willard Beach neighborhood of South Portland.
